Christine Lampard shares photos from school days as she recalls fears growing up during the Troubles

The Loose Women presenter revealed her childhood fears that her father would become a victim of the violence.

She was speaking on an episode of the ITV show where she serves as a panellist.

During Wednesday’s programme, Lampard, who was born in Newry but grew up in Newtownards, shared photos believed to be from her time at Bloomfield Collegiate School in Ballyhackamore.

“I think because my dad was out in bands all the time, people would come into pubs and clubs and just shoot,” Christine said on ‘Before Loose’, an episode dedicated to the panel’s before fame experiences.

“I wouldn’t sleep until I could hear dad’s car pull up outside. I would just stare at the ceiling. It went on for years. It knocks you for six and everything feels like it’s on our doorstep.”

The former Daybreak presenter also shared that she got her start in television on a programme hosted by current Late Late Show host and Co Down comedian Patrick Kielty.

However, Christine admitted she was more interested in the behind the scenes action rather than in front of the camera.

“I really have no idea where it came from but it was the technical side that first interested me,” she said.

Her comments on Loose Women, which she joined as a presenter in 2016, come nearly a year after she revealed she still suffers from “bad anxiety” from her childhood amid the Troubles.

Speaking to Woman & Home magazine, she said: “I’m not positive all the time. I have flat days like everyone else, but I take the little wins, which is what my mum always taught me to do.

“She also used to say: ‘Your health is your wealth’. We didn’t go on flashy holidays abroad like my friends did, but I look back on my early childhood as such a happy time because I was brought up feeling grateful for small things.

“I suffered from bad anxiety as a result of growing up during the Troubles. My dad was a musician at a time when people were going into restaurants or bars and shooting around them. I couldn’t sleep until I heard dad’s car on the stones outside.”

She also told Loose Women she became irritated when people would constantly ask her when she was “going to start a family” early in her career.

“I had children to stop people asking me when I was going to have them. I’m glad I’ve had them. It’s because everyone assumes you have to be,” she said.

The television star shares two children – Patricia (5) and Freddie (2) – with her former Chelsea star husband Frank Lampard. She is also a step-mother to his daughters Luna (18) and Isla (16) from a previous relationship.

“My biggest ambition in life was to be self-sufficient, look after my mum and dad. It sounds very basic but that’s what drove me,” she added.

“I wanted to be able to look after myself. I got my first job and 15. I worked through school and uni.”
