Gardaí close one of Dublin’s busiest streets after crash as cops give warning

GARDAÍ have been rushed to one of Dublin’s busiest streets following a road crash on Saturday morning.

Gardaí are currently at the scene of a collision on Dame Street, Dublin 2.

The road has been closed off to oncoming traffic due to the incident, with the junctions of South Great George’s Street and Exchange Street Upper both sealed off.

Diversions have been put in place.

A garda spokesperson has said that gardaí are to remain at the scene this morning and no further information is currently available.

They said: “Gardaí are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision on Dame Street in Dublin 2.

“Dame Street is currently closed to traffic and diversion in place.

“No further information is available at this time.”

They added on X: “Dame Street, Dublin 2, is currently closed to traffic due to a collision in the area.

“The road is closed between the junctions of South Great George’s Street and Exchange Street Upper.

“Diversions are in place.”

Gardaí have warned motorists to “please drive safely on your onwards journey, thank you” following a deadly crash in Dublin yesterday.

Gardaí confirmed a man in his 40s had been killed in a serious incident on Dublin’s M50 motorway yesterday morning.

A motorcyclist died and and a lorry driver was left injured after the horror crash on the M50.

The fatal crash happened shortly after 10:15 am on the northbound carriageway of the M50 between Junction seven and Junction six.

The motorcyclist, a male in his 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the lorry, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital for assessment.

The scene was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

The local coroner has been notified, and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.

Gardaí said in a statement: “Gardaí at Blanchardstown are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the M50 in west Dublin on Friday, 17th May 2024.

“Shortly after 10:15 am, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a collision involving a lorry and a motorcycle on the northbound carriageway of the M50 between Junction 7 (N4 Liffey Valley) and Junction 6 (N3 Castleknock).

“The motorcyclist, a male in his 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the lorry, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital for assessment.

“The crash site was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened. The local coroner has been notified, and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.

“Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the M50 at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station on 01 666 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
