Tayto warehouse in Co Armagh could be transformed into new logistics space
A proposal has been submitted to turn a Tayto warehouse in Co Armagh into a new logistics and industrial space.
The crisps and snacks company is partnering with Prime Box, a logistics and industrial development company in London, to transform their Wenlock Road site in Lurgan (above) into a new “logistics and employment space”.
Planning permission as been sought for the building which is currently used as a storage warehouse and was formerly a clothing warehouse.
Prime Box will commit £40m to the project, and say that if the proposals are accepted then all the current jobs at the facility will be retained by Tayto and moved to a new location.
A spokesman said: “The proposals would redevelop what was a former clothing factory, now being used as a storage facility, into a modern sustainable premises which will contribute to the local economy for decades to come.
“The additional employment opportunities that the proposals will create, will provide support and trade for local businesses to benefit from.”
The joint venture partners said the proposals will attract investment that will benefit local people in Lurgan, create new jobs and safeguard existing employment in the area.
The Tayto group returned to profit in the latest accounting period after making a loss the previous two years.
Tayto’s parent company, which is headquartered in in Corby in England following a series of acquisitions, reported a pre-tax profit of £4.2m for the period ending July 1 2023, after making a pre-tax loss of of £0.6m in 2022 and £1.3m in 2023.
