Ireland icon snapped with pop megastar Rodrigo ahead of Man Utd vs Chelsea
MAN Utd and Republic of Ireland legend Denis Irwin has been pictured alongside pop icon Olivia Rodrigo.
The Corkman was in attendance for today’s 1-1 draw between his the Red Devils and Chelsea at Old Trafford when the singer made a surprise appearance at the Premier League clash.
The American musician was snapped posing with a Man Utd shirt that had her name on the back ahead of kick-off.
The 21-year-old pop megastar admitted she supported the Blues in August 2023 when she attended her first ever Premier League game.
But Chelsea fans were quick to point out that she had previously posed with one of their shirts – which they were less than happy about after her past admission about being a fan of The Pensioners.
Last year, Rodrigo met Ben Chilwell and the pair had photos taken while holding up a Blues jersey.
But today she was seen on the Old Trafford pitch alongside Man Utd treble winner Denis Irwin.
The former Ireland full-back was seen smiling for a picture alongside the singer-songwriter and actress.
During his 12-year tenure at Manchester United, Irwin made 368 appearances and scored 22 goals.
His contributions were massive in the club’s success during the 90s and 2000s, including seven Premier League titles, three FA Cups, and the UEFA Champions League in the 1998–99 season.
He also represented Ireland 56 times, participating in the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
In the game itself, a Moises Caicedo’s rocket moved the Blues above Arsenal into fourth with hosts stuck in 13th position in the league.
The scoring was opened after some dire stuff from both teams as Bruno Fernandes’ 70th minute penalty put the home side ahead.
But the penalty, given away after keeper Robert Sanchez clipped Rasmus Hojlund’s foot for the foul, left Chelsea needing to react.
And Moises Caicedo provided the goods with a stunning controlled volley just four minutes later, to leave Chelsea without a victory at Old Trafford in their last 12 visits.
The flat 1-1 draw at Old Trafford petered out as interim manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s bounce fell flat.
United struggled to put on a show for new gaffer Ruben Amorim, who arrives on November 11, as they sit in the second half of the Premier League table.
