Dermot O’Leary to visit Belfast for ITV travel and food series Taste of Ireland
Filming for the five-part series Dermot’s Taste of Ireland is currently taking place in Kinsale, Cork city, Wexford, Dublin and Belfast, and is supported by Tourism Ireland.
From traditional Irish stew to soda bread and fresh seafood, the series will follow Dermot as he tours, tastes and bakes his way around the island of Ireland, meeting with local food producers, chefs and restaurateurs along the way.
Having opened two of his own fish-themed restaurants and sharing some of his favourite home recipes on ITV’s This Morning, he is now taking his passion on the road whilst exploring Ireland’s ancient landscapes, diverse cities and stunning coastlines.
The host said that he “can’t wait” to embark on the trip which will combine his two greatest loves — Ireland and food.
“The food scene in Ireland is so exciting and to meet the people and try the produce will be a real treat,” said Dermot O’Leary.
“It’s exciting to see modern Ireland through second generation eyes — and to show that Ireland’s food is more than cabbage and stews… although all their cabbage and stews are also great!”
Alice Mansergh, chief executive of Tourism Ireland, said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to support the production of this new five-part series, Dermot’s Taste of Ireland.
“With millions of people across Britain set to tune into the series later this year on ITV1 and on the streaming service ITVX, it’s a great way to shine a spotlight on the island of Ireland — showcasing our delicious local produce, wonderful culinary offering and beautiful landscapes.
“Publicity and broadcasts like this are a key element of Tourism Ireland’s programme of promotional activity, to encourage travellers in Britain, and elsewhere around the world, to put the island of Ireland on their holiday wish-list.”
Leanne Clarke, assistant commissioner, ITV Entertainment & Daytime ITV said: “We are thrilled to be commissioning this brand-new series, Dermot’s Taste of Ireland, with one of our much-loved talents here at ITV. We can’t wait to learn more about the history and culture that Ireland has to offer.”
Charlotte Davis, creative director for Rock Oyster Media said: “We’re delighted to be working with Dermot as he explores his passion for Ireland and food in this fantastic new series for ITV. Dermot O’Leary’s Taste of Ireland will showcase all the very best of Irish produce, people and landscapes… as well as Dermot’s not inconsiderable cooking abilities! It promises to be a real treat.”
Dermot’s Taste of Ireland will air on ITV1 and on the streaming service ITVX later this year
