DTCP invests in Atlantic Hub, advancing Irish data centres
DTCP has announced its role as the primary investor in Atlantic Hub, a data centre developer based in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
The investment by DTCP will support Atlantic Hub’s large-scale campus developments, including a newly approved data centre at Foyle Port Innovation Park in Derry-Londonderry, which marks Northern Ireland’s first substantial data centre campus.
Atlantic Hub, established in 2018, is working on developing another campus in County Donegal, Ireland. The two sites are set to provide up to 170MW of capacity to cater to demands in cloud computing and AI needs for large-scale IT users.
Zahl Limbuwala, Operating Partner at DTCP, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are excited to be involved in the onward development of Atlantic Hub as it presents a unique opportunity to develop the region into a new data centre hub. There is a huge growth opportunity for Atlantic Hub to benefit from the unprecedented tailwinds in the data center industry. With Atlantic Hub’s Derry campus having been granted planning permission, we are now looking forward to working with Brian and his team, leveraging our experience and network to develop a state-of-the-art data centre campus.”
The geographical positioning of the campuses in Ireland is seen as strategic, leveraging local climatic advantages, access to renewable energy sources, and Northern Ireland’s jurisdictional reach across the UK and EU markets, all bolstered by a strong local tech talent pool.
Brian Doherty, Managing Director & CEO of Atlantic Hub, commented on the partnership with DTCP, saying, “We are excited to have gained DTCP as our new investor and to develop Atlantic Hub together into a leading data centre operator. DTCP’s strong track record across the data centre industry allows Atlantic Hub to capitalise on the sizable opportunity that lies ahead. We look forward to working alongside DTCP as they support Atlantic Hub to reach its full potential in the growing data centre market.”
Markus Wiedenmann, CEO of Art Invest, also acknowledged the collaboration, “It’s wonderful to be working again with our partners at DTCP who have extensive data center development experience and unique market sector knowledge. I’m also pleased to see that Brian whom we backed from an early stage has reached this important milestone in the development of Atlantic Hub.”
The partnership between DTCP and Atlantic Hub signifies a strategic investment to advance the development of data centre capabilities in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. With plans for substantial infrastructure at Foyle Port Innovation Park and a new campus in County Donegal, the collaboration is positioned to meet the increasing demands of cloud computing and AI. By leveraging local resources and expertise, Atlantic Hub is poised to establish itself as a significant player in the data centre market, supported by DTCP’s experience and network in the industry.
