Ireland ace in bullish mood as he makes notable career decision after tough year
IRELAND midfielder Josh Cullen was bullish after signing a new contract with Burnley.
The 28-year-old agreed a three-year deal — with the option of a further 12 months — at Turf Moor and wants the club back in the Premier League after last season’s relegation.
Cullen — who was signed from Anderlecht in 2022 by former manager Vincent Kompany — said: “It’s always good to commit your future to the club.
“A club that in the two years I’ve been here has really felt like home.
“I’m just eager now to get back to work this season and get the club back to where it belongs in the Premier League.”
The current campaign began well with two victories under Scott Parker.

They have since lost one and drawn one — leaving them in sixth and five points behind leaders Sunderland.
But Cullen believes things are moving in the right direction under the new head coach.
He added: “It’s been great.
“A breath of fresh air around the place. Fresh ideas and a fresh voice.
“I speak on behalf of all of the squad when I say everyone enjoys working with him.
“We’re really enjoying it and looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Cullen is currently missing from Ireland’s Nations League squad due to injury.
Meanwhile in League of Ireland contract news, veteran goal-getter Pádraig Amond has inked a ‘multi-year’ contract to extend his time with Waterford.
Much-travelled striker Amond, 36, returned from the UK to join the Blues in January.
He’s has netted 13 goals, 11 in the league to help Keith Long’s promoted side to an impressive first season back in the Premier Division.
They sit fifth and are very much in contention for a European place with seven games to play.
Amond said: “I’m really pleased to have signed a new deal.
“To be involved with such a talented group of young players that we have at the club at the moment is brilliant.
“Both my family and I have been welcomed so much by the club.”
