Jude Bellingham leaves Arsenal fans giddy with comment over Gunners move
Jude Bellingham gave an optimistic Arsenal fan the slightest glimmer of hope that he could join the Gunners one day.
The England international has become one of the game’s biggest stars at the age of 21, joining Real Madrid last summer after three thrilling years at Borussia Dortmund.
The former Birmingham City youngster immediately became a fixture in the Los Blancos first-team, scoring 23 goals and laying on 13 assists in his first season to help the club win La Liga and the Champions League in his first season in Spain.
A move away from the Santiago Bernabeu isn’t likely any time soon but Bellingham delighted one young Arsenal when he didn’t rule out the idea of heading to north London.
During the international break, Bellingham was signing autographs for youngsters outside the training camp with the Gunners fan pleading: ‘Come to Arsenal, Jude. Please. We will look after you.’
Laughing and posing for a photo, Bellingham smiled: ‘Maybe, yeah.’
Giddy Gunners lapped up Bellingham’s comments on social media, with one commenting: ‘Well, he didn’t say no.’
‘So you’re telling me there’s a chance,’ another wrote with another adding: ‘Don’t give me hope, Jude.’
Like every other major club in Europe, Arsenal were among Bellingham’s admirers as he emerged from the Birmingham academy with the midfielder turning down a move to Manchester United to join Dortmund in 2020.
After three years in Germany, Bellingham rejected a move to Liverpool to join Real with his ambition to stay in the Spanish capital for the ‘next 10 to 15 years’.
‘I am getting a little better each time I play,’ Bellingham said in October 2023, shortly after his arrival in Spain.
‘It was a really good night for us, we all remember what happened a few years ago when they played us here. You always aim for progression. We are heading in the right direction and a very important win for us.
‘I am loving football at the minute. My management at club and country are giving me freedom to play it how I see it. Since the last few months I have been really working on my timing getting into the box and as I am arriving I am arriving with a big hunger.
‘With the big transfer the fact is I have to deliver, whether it is a goal or assist or a match-winning performance.
‘This is the club I want to be at for the next 10 to 15 years of my life. I am loving it there. Carlo basically said this position is where he sees me.’
