Matt Doherty back in Ireland squad as Heimir Hallgrimsson loses three players ahead of double header

Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson has been forced into a number of changes to his squad for the Nations League games against Finland and England with three players missing out.

Defenders Seamus Coleman and Shane Duffy and forward Adam Idah are ruled out of the squad through injury.

In their place he has called in Ryan Manning, Jake O’Brien and Matt Doherty. O’Brien and Doherty had been dropped from the squad last month, with Wolves man Doherty expressing his unhappiness at his exclusion but he also retained faith that he would win back his place in the squad.

And given that there’s an injury doubt over Watford’s Festy Ebosele, Doherty could be in line for game time in the double header.

Manning, who won his last cap against New Zealand 12 months ago, earns a recall off the back of a strong run of form in the Premier League with Southampton.
