Roadworks to cause traffic disruption in east Belfast

A resurfacing scheme on the Kings Road, Belfast is due to commence this Thursday.

This scheme will resurface the full length of the road between the A55 Knock Road to the Gilnahirk Road.

To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme, a one-way closure westbound from Gilnahirk Road to Knock Road will be in place from Thursday 18 July until Sunday 18 August 2024. Access and egress for residents will be maintained.

Final resurfacing work will also be carried out over five consecutive Sundays from 18 August to 15 September 2024, which will require road closures from 8:00am until 8.00pm.

During times of closure a diversion route will be signed using Gilnahirk Road – Lower Braniel Road – Glen Road and Ballygowan Road.

The scheme is set to cost £350,000 and the Department for Infrastructure has said it carefully planned these roadworks and associated traffic management arrangements to minimise any inconvenience to the public.

However road users are advised to expect delays and allow additional time when planning any journey.

Weather permitting, the scheme is expected to be completed by 15 September, however the Department will keep the public informed of any changes.
